NARÓN
Narón is a small industrial village that also offers architectural heritage and scenic interest. There are more than 200 points of special interest to be discovered in Narón.
Some good examples of the village’s architectural heritage are the Romanesque church of San Martiño of Xuvia, the prehistoric cemetery of Monte dos Nenos, the three Galician pazos and several medieval houses.
Narón also has a Celtic heritage, with 17 burial mounds listed in the town of Sedes. Every summer, the Oenach festival commemorates some of the Celtic ancestral traditions.
The industrial tradition is showcased by five watermills that remain in Narón, one in Xuvia and one in As Aceas, a tide mill built in 18th century that became a flour factory in 19th century.
The monastery of O Couto is the main example of religious architecture. It was built in the 12th century and rebuilt in the 18th century, and has been declared a National Artistic Monument. The monastery is the starting point of the old way to San Andrés de Teixido, one of the most famous pilgrimage routes of Galicia. Besides, it is a crossing point of the English Way to Santiago.
