Cabanas could be defined as woodland turning into sea. The landmarks of this municipality are its beaches and the Fragas do Eume.

In Cabanas the fragas (woodlands) meet the sea. The quiet beaches are well-equipped and ideal for water sports, such as canoeing and sailing.

There are some sandy areas, but the best to visit are A Madalena and the beach of Cabanas. Calm water, white sand and well-kept woodlands make them ideal places to enjoy outdoor meals and picnics, especially in summer.

The most important building in the town is the pazo (Galician country house) of Cabanas. This pazo was also known as Casa Grande de Rioboo and was built in the 16th century by the archbishop of Santiago, Francisco de Seixas y Losada, who was born in Cabanas.

Admire the cruceiro (Galician stone cross) in the neighbourhood of Areal which indicates the limits of the old stone bridge over the river Eume
